Using Voice In inside pop-up windows

A common question we get is: Can I use Voice In in a pop-up window?
Yes, you can use Voice In in a pop-up window just like any other tab.

To start or stop voice dictation, you can:

  • Use the keyboard shortcut Alt + L (⌥ + L on Mac), or
  • Place the cursor in the text box, right-click, and select Start Dictation from the menu. To stop, right-click again and choose Stop Dictation.

6/2/25 it seems that ⌥ + L on Mac has suddenly stopped working today. I’ve restarted, made sure i’m logged in etc and still doesn’t seem to be working. Has been otherwise working for the last year.

@drjlam Go to the Voice In Options page > Keyboard Shortcuts
Check what the shortcut key to start Voice In is.

It is possible that some other extension reset the shortcut. You can set the keyboard shortcut to start Voice In at the above URL.
